What to Do With Dry Flowers Part III - Perfect Potpourri!

Posted by Rose & Blossom on 17th Aug 2016

We’ve delivered a fresh bouquet of roses to your doorstep (thanks to your lovely fiancé), and you’ve enjoyed their fragrance and beauty for the last week. They’ve served well as the perfect centerpiece for your dining room table. But as time passes, you know that your surprise rose delivery will inevitably wilt and decay. If you love flowers, and you can’t stand to see them wilt, you’re in luck. You can always dry your flower petals, and turn them into a craft project. We already mentioned a few ideas: Making a bookmark and making confetti. Today, we’re going to talk about how to turn your bouquet of roses into long-lasting potpourri!

Dry Flower Potpourri

First things first, you’ll have to dry your flowers - you can read more about a few processes for drying flowers here. Next, gather your favorite essential oils. Put together a selection of oils that work well together. Lavender oil and rose oil are popular go-to selections, but feel free to get creative! Once you’re ready to go, you’ll want to place your dried flower petals into a container, and then you can add a few drops of your essential oils to the petals - there’s no need to overdo the amount of oil you add. After the oil is added, seal the container, and keep it in a warm location for a week or two (this ensures that the oils are fully absorbed throughout your flower petal medley). Finally, your fresh, hand-crafted potpourri is ready to go! Place your potpourri in open-air jars, baskets, centerpieces, or scatter it along your tablecloth to give your dining room a floral feel.

Get Creative!

When it comes to potpourri, the options are endless. You can combine your fragrant flower petals with stones, pine cones, sticks, and other natural elements to make your mixture more unique and more beautiful. Give the gift of potpourri by bottling it in mason jars. Or bring potpourri to the next wedding you plan, and use it to decorate the tables at the reception. Regardless of how you choose to use your potpourri, you’ll love making use of those dried flower petals, and you’ll love the fragrance.

And of course, you can always get started with flower delivery services from Rose & Blossom. Share flowers with a friend, and create potpourri with the petals to make the beauty and scent of those flowers permeate the spaces of your home.
